Daniel, As promised (although perhaps later than you expected due to my busy schedule), I am forwarding an email from Stevev Velasquez of the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian Institution. I told Steve that you will be interfacing with him from this point forward. Good luck, and please accept my apology that this has taken me so long.
Sincerely, Jonathan Yorba From: "Steve Velasquez"

Subject: Re: Question on Artifact Donation Date: Fri, 10 Sep 2004 09:54:42 -0400 Hello, How have you been. Magdalena passed your email on to me. Please pass on my email to Mr. Giles. We will need to know a description, a history of how he acquired it, dimensions, condition, and an image.
Note: The Smithsonian lost interest in the gates due to the misinformation (highlighted in yellow) of an LA Times article that cast a shadow over how he acquired it. Daniel Giles, appreciated Mr. Velasquez follow up phone call from the Smithsonian. His concern was the manner of Giles acquiring it and Giles concern was that the gates would go into storage. Which Velasquez confirmed would happen. Giles believes that gates are for the people and public and not for storage. |
